Since childhood, my passion for nature has been strong, shaping some of my fondest memories. Growing up alongside the tranquil banks of the Ross River in North Queensland, I found myself captivated by the vibrant flora and fauna, spending countless hours exploring its wonders.

Every school holiday was an adventure, immersing myself in the lush rainforests at the back of my grandparents haven the Honey House, in Kuranda, Far North Queensland. My curiosity for the natural world lead me on many an adventure. Family vacations never involved planes and hotels, they were rich in simplicity—just us, our dog, a tent, and the allure of nearby bodies of water.

It wasn't until I finished my university education and moved to Sydney that I truly grasped the profound influence of nature and its indispensable role in our lives. Escaping the perils of stingers and crocodiles, I embraced a daily ritual of ocean swimming—a practice that has become an irreplaceable cornerstone of my existence.

Fuelled by this deep-seated love for nature, an awakening mind and knowledge base, compounded by a burgeoning sense of climate anxiety, I made the shift, departing from a successful and diverse career in marketing spanning sectors such as banking, professional sports, local government, and theatre. Redirecting all my fervour and energy, I committed myself to championing environmental causes…particularly my passionate love of the ocean.

The inception of Ocean Voices was sparked by my recent work with the Ocean Impact Organisation, delving into ocean health and innovation, alongside my involvement in youth initiatives with Ocean Youth. Wanting to give youth in our regional areas, particularly my home ground, the opportunities that are afforded to their city peers. My dedication lies in empowering young voices, ensuring they feel valued and hopeful, as they endeavour to carve out the vibrant, blue future they so rightly deserve. Monet and young people like her, inspire me every day….they are the reason we do what we do…and why we need to listen.
